Xbox 360 Family Settings

Xbox 360 Family Settings allow parents and caregivers to manage their children's access to games, movies, video and online content and communications, as they deem appropriate.

Age-Appropriate Games. To choose the appropriate games for your Xbox 360:

  1. Click on the Xbox Guide button (insert picture/visual of guide button) and select the "System Settings" tab.
  2. Select "Family Settings, Console Controls."
  3. Select "Game Ratings." The default setting is "Allow All Games."
  4. Select the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) rating level you deem appropriate.
  5. Set a pass code to prevent unauthorized changes to the settings by selecting "Set Pass Code" from the "Console Controls" screen and following the on-screen instructions.
  6. After you've set your code, select "Done" from the Console Controls screen. When prompted, select "Yes" to save changes and put your new settings into effect.

Video Ratings Controls. With video ratings controls in Family Settings, choose the type of video content that can be played on your Xbox 360 console. You can set movie ratings and video ratings, and block explicit and unrated video.

Xbox LIVE. Xbox LIVE Family Settings let you:

  1. Control access to all the features of Xbox LIVE.
  2. Set a pass code to protect your Family Settings.
  3. Enable/Disable Xbox LIVE Vision Cam.
  4. Decide what your kids will play, both on- and offline.
  5. Decide who your child can communicate with online.
  6. Control who can see your child's profile or friends list.

Managing Time. The Family Timer allows you to control the amount of time your child uses Xbox 360 on a daily or weekly basis. Visit www.GetGameSmart.ca to learn more about the Family Timer.

Note: Family Settings apply to everyone using your Xbox 360 console, so if an older member of the household wants to play a more mature game or play for a longer period of time, you can temporarily override the settings by entering your pass code.

In addition to using your Xbox 360 Family Settings, we encourage you to talk with your children about your household's media use by making a PACT (Parental Involvement Access Content Time). The PACT is a tool to help your family discuss what types of media are age-appropriate for each child and where, when, and how your child may use them. The PACT can be found at www.GetGameSmart.ca.
